The City Clerk’s office is responsible for maintaining a wide variety of vital permanent city records, including City Council minutes and resolutions. The Clerk also keeps track of the indexing and filing of actions taken by the City Council. The Clerk’s Office is responsible for posting agendas, managing Council packet production and distribution, and preparing Council minutes. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING
The Community Development Department is made up of Planning, Building & Safety, Code
Enforcement and the Belmont Redevelopment Agency, including Housing Assistance. INFORMATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Information Services is responsible for all City-wide network and telecommunications systems. This includes the purchase, implementation and maintenance of all hardware and software applications. Other responsibilities include maintaining the City’s website, which involves providing and updating online forms, activities, class registration, permit inspection requests, Council agenda searches, minutes and resolutions, Council Broadcasting and video streaming to Belmont residents. ONE STOP PERMIT CENTER
The Permit Center is the one-stop location for nearly all City permits. Our customers can obtain information and applications for Building Permits, Planning Entitlements, Business Licenses, Temporary Encroachment Permits, and Administrative Permanent Encroachment Agreements. PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
The mission of the Parks & Recreation Department is to provide for and enhance the health, lifelong learning and spirit of the Belmont community with a wide variety of recreational programs and services. Quality programs and services are essential for the development of healthy individuals and a strong community. The Parks & Recreation Department provides facilities for many community and city activities. POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Belmont Police Department is a full service police agency with about 50 full time personnel, two reserve police officers, and a large contingent of citizen volunteers. The Police Department’s goal is to further their motto of “A Tradition of Service” by using these resources to protect life and property in Belmont while providing high quality service to residents. The department has a number of specialty units including: uniformed patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, canines, school resource officers, Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.), crime prevention, 9-1-1 communications, records, evidence technicians, Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) and Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.). The Public Works Department provides services to the public in two primary areas: Transportation and Environmental Services. Transportation Services plans and maintains a safe and efficient transportation infrastructure to meet the community’s mobility needs. Environmental Services safeguards the environment for the health, protection and benefit of the community. BELMONT-SAN CARLOS FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department is an All-Risk Fire Department, responding to over 4,400 calls for service each year. The Department is the Hazardous Materials Response Team for all of San Mateo County and it currently provides Firefighter-Paramedics on each fire apparatus within the communities served. FINANCE COMMISSION
The Finance Commission participates in the budget review process at the request of the City Council, and performs special projects for long and short term financial consequences. The Finance
Commission meets bi-monthly on the first Thursday of even months at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
The Parks and Recreation Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on matters pertaining to Belmont’s Park and Recreation programs and facilities. It meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
YOUTH APPOINTMENTS
The Parks and Recreation Commission has two seats for youth commissioners. The City Council will consider applications from Belmont residents who are between the ages of 13 and 17 years old. Parent/Guardian consent
is mandatory.
PLANNING COMMISSION
The Planning Commission reviews and takes action on planning applications and makes recommendations to the City Council on land use issues. It meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m.
